God, Rebecca, I'm so glad I found your account. You are speaking and writing into such an important space. I'm 6 years into choosing myself over my marriage, and have been unwinding generations of female ancestral repression through writing these past couple of years. Leaving (through the gate of an affair - who knew I actually DID like sex after all??) was the single scariest and most important thing I've done in my lifetime, aside from being a mom to my 2 20-something sons. I'm now obsessed with male-female relating and the systems like nuclear families that I believe keep both men and women isolated and performing rather than fully living.
I just started publishing on substack under a pseudonym because I still have pretty significant fear around writing about other people. In the last month even though I've had some real haters come for me I've also had women reach out, saying thank you for sharing my truth. Owning my own story and not protecting other people, but still writing with compassion for all, has been cathartic and healing. We need to support one another in questioning these systems that I don't think are working great for most of us.
