do you like to be read to?
if so, here's an audioessay and a 20% discount to celebrate the braid's second birthday
The other night, I read the first half of this two part essay in front of an audience. I hadn’t read from anything — besides my book — in many years and it felt really good to read out loud.
I loved reading my audiobook. Words become a different animal when you read them out loud and I’m aways surprised by how I hear words vs how I see them.
Anyway! I only read the first half because I only had ten minutes to read and had I read both it would have taken… longer than that.
But after reading one half aloud, I felt like I’d left the second half hanging, and then I got the idea to read them together as an offering for subscribers here.
I know that for many of us, it is far easier to listen to a twenty-minute essay than it is to read one, so this week, I recorded this one in its entirety for anyone who wants to listen. (You can listen to audio essays with ease on the substack app which I highly recommend downloading if you haven’t already!)
If reading my work is something you would like me to continue to do, please let me know in the comments and I will record long-form essays of my newsletters for paid subscribers.
But first, here’s a freebie:
FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY, A PAIR OF STOOPS:
Thank you all for your support these last two years! The braid would not exist without paid subscriptions and your willingness to support my work financially is why I am able to self publish from this platform and write freely. Thank you for keeping the lights on for me.
My two cents that I prefer reading to listening (and have LOVED reading you since before Fable).
I like reading more, but I’m probably the only person left in the world who just can’t get into podcasts. I know. So, that’s one vote for text for the oddballs. 😜
